Ms. Bitner-Collins is currently the Aviation Instructor at DeSoto High School (in DeSoto, Texas). She was an Adjunct Professor at Mountain View College (MVC), which is part of the Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD), and she taught there, off and on, beginning in 1984. At MVC, she taught Aviation courses for Commercial Pilots and Instrument Pilots. Additionally, she taught courses on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations for pilots and other aviation personnel. And, she instructed using the aircraft flight training devices in the MVC Aviation Simulation Lab. She also has served as a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) instructor at MVC for Pre-Engineering summer students. And, she taught the material for the aviation merit badges for both the Boy Scouts and for the Girl Scouts. She holds an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, as well as Certificates for Flight Instruction and Instrument Flight Instruction for both Single Engine and Multi-Engine Aircraft. She has many thousands of hours of flight time. She regularly instructed, re-qualified, and recertified pilots while at MVC. She is a member of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) - the USAF Auxiliary, and she holds the rank of Lt. Colonel. She has the rating of CAP Command Pilot. She is currently the CAP Director of Aerospace Education for the entire State of Texas. She has taught Aerospace and Safety courses, regularly, for the CAP. And, she holds a CAP Master Rating in Aerospace Education. As a member of the CAP, she continues to take part in Search & Rescue (SAR) and Disaster Recovery (DR) missions both as a pilot and as a staff officer. She has completed the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 courses. She received her Associate of Applied Arts and Science Degree from MVC in 1984, and she was initiated into the MVC chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Northwood University, summa cum laude, in 1997. And, she received her Master of Aeronautical Science from Embry Riddle Aviation University in 2012. She was on the team at MVC that received the MVC Innovator of the Year Award in 2011 for their work building and using a model of the Wright Brothers' wind tunnel as a teaching tool. She is developing curriculum and course material for training of airport personnel that is required for large airports. The FAA has mandated this training to be done on an annual basis. She has become recognized as a Safety Expert by the FAA Safety Team. She also volunteers as the alternate organist at her church and sings in the church choir. She enjoys teaching aviation students both in the class room and in the flight training devices. For her, watching a student pilot become a private pilot and continuing to the instrument and commercial is wonderful, and she derives great pleasure knowing she helped them on their career path. |
